Fuel Economy results: Victoria to Toronto

Posted by NRG SVR in 100 MPG Challenge

The first 9 days of the 100 MPG Challenge have seen me travel from Victoria on Sunday August 28th, to the greater Toronto area on Monday September 5th. I took the longer route via Edmonton and Prince Albert, and then after reaching Ontario, sailed to Tobermory and drove the Bruce Peninsula to the London area.

5187 kilometres on 175 litres of fuel has yielded me an overall 84 mpg (imperial), or 3.37 L/100km. This is about 4% over the goal. While doing this, I was able to achieve better than 100 mpg two times - setting a personal best of 113 mpg (2.5 L/100km) between Prince Albert and Yorkton, and coming in close with 106 mpg (2.67 L/100km) heading into the London area.

You can now download an excel version of my results for Victoria to Toronto.

I will be posting a comparison of expected costs for other popular vehicles shortly.

Many thanks to Mike T from Ladysmith for keeping my online results up-to-date. Mike has a wealth of knowledge about all the fuel-efficient European cars we’d love to see over here. When he and his family go to Europe, they actually purchase a brand new Renault through a special program that allows them to use it for unlimited kilometres during their stay at a very attractive price. Mike was part of the first group of people to place a deposit on a smart car back in 2002. He’s also a founding member of Club smart car.
